Belly Dance

Belly dance Level 1-

This foundation class is an introduction to the basic movements of belly dancing.  Class will cover basic steps, shimmies, proper posture, and basic isolations. Each 12 week session, a new class choreography is taught and students have the opportunity to perform at the studio hafla. Students must attend last class or rehearsal to perform at hafla. No prior dance experience is needed.  Students generally spend at least 2-3 sessions in Level I.

 

Belly dance Level II-

Level II builds on the skills taught in level 1 and focuses on refining your technique.  Level II introduces more challenging isolations, movements and choreography.  Each 16 week session, a new class choreography is taught and students have the opportunity to perform at the studio hafla.

 

Intermediate-

The Intermediate class refines and perfects the moves and isolations taught in Level II.  Layering, complex transitions, ¾ shimmies, speed and isolation control is introduced in the Intermediate class. Complex choreography is taught at a faster pace.  Each 16 week session, a new class choreography is taught and students have the opportunity to perform at the studio hafla. Students must attend last class or rehearsal to perform at hafla.

 

Advanced-

This class is for dancers who have mastered proficiency in Belly dance Level I, II and the Intermediate class.  Dancers will learn complex shimmy and layering techniques, advanced drill combinations, development of improvisational skills, and performance presence development. Props such as veils and zills are introduced at this level. Dancers will learn complex choreography at a challenging pace. Class also includes an introduction to the history, context and philosophy of belly dance. This class is a public performance class, performing at local events and the studio hafla.
